From the General Manager (October 2019)
Much has happened over the past few weeks….
Just a quick update for our loyal basketball followers
FDBA President Tim Bower and myself conducted a community basketball forum over 2 nights where everyone from our basketball community could attend and hear about the strategy that has been developed for the next 5 years, as well as answer any questions that the attendees had regarding the Association.
The feedback has been very positive in that the Association has become very transparent and inclusive
Thank you to those people that attended.
Remember if you ever want to drop in and ask a question or offer a suggestion please feel free to, I am in the office and around the stadium most days and most weekends but just remember my coffee preference is flat white….
Mental Health Seminars
We are in the very preliminary stages of scheduling an evening in conjunction with Headspace to facilitate an educative session for our basketballing youth and parents on the important topic of mental health.
Please save the date Tuesday 26th November at 6.30pm at a venue to be announced.
Our strategic plan is clear that we want to be a role model community organisation that not only facilitates basketball but supports the community.
Summer 2019/20 Domestic Season
Basketball’s popularity remains strong in the region with a record 934 teams signing up for our Summer domestic competitions.
This presents many resourcing challenges that the team is working through.
Dion has been able to acquire more venues (now 8 total) including the addition of the newly renovated Carrum Downs Secondary College gym to help minimise later time slots.
Our Introduction and Development programs have opened up registrations.
Jarryd’s commitment to participation has seen the need to open Sunday and Monday afternoon Mini Hoops sessions.
Junior Blues tryouts for 2020 are half way through the annual process and squads expected to be announced following Sunday’s last session.
All of our Senior Blues Coaches are locked in for the 2020 with player signings in the works.
Bailey Roberts has now commenced with us on a part time basis working with Dion and Mitch and is settling in well.
We have had Daniel Gianchino doing some university placement with us recently so if you see a new face he has chosen the FDBA as his placement.
Now for those that don’t know predominately my background has been in Australian football and we could not let the AFL Grand Final day go without recognition of the event here at the FDBA so we conducted the now traditional FDBA Grand Final sprint that was hotly contested by our team here and whilst the back marker Dion (ex 400 meter Stawell Gift winner) was favourite and ran very well along with the rest of the team it was newbie Bailey who prevailed and won the replica Norm Smith medal.
Special mention to Daniel who pinged a hammy with the finish line in sight and was not given very much sympathy from fellow competitors…
As always my parting message…
To all of those girls and boys of ages 5 to 70 thank you for choosing to play basketball here at Frankston.
