Frankston Basketball needs YOUR help in securing much needed Federal Government funding

FRANKSTON BASKETBALL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT TO EXPAND & UPGRADE FRANKSTON BASKETBALL STADIUM

Frankston Basketball calls on the Federal Government to match dollar for dollar as part of its National Stronger Regions Fund the investment Frankston City; Frankston Basketball; and the Victorian state government have committed towards the planned Frankston Indoor Basketball Stadium Expansion Project.

Currently there are not enough courts & functional space at the Frankston indoor basketball stadium to accommodate the continued growth of basketball in the Frankston municipality. Basketball is the highest participated team sport in the Frankston municipality with Frankston Basketball Stadium under increasing pressures to manage the over 750,000 visitations that take place per annum.

Over the last three (3) years Frankston Basketball in partnership with Frankston City have activated the Frankston Indoor Basketball Stadium Expansion Project which has seen a feasibility study completed which identifies basketball as the highest participated team sport in the Frankston municipality.

A confirmed project scope and budget for Stage 1 has been finalized which will see the addition of four (4) indoor basketball courts at Frankston basketball stadium including a 2,000 seat show-court; increased administrative & functional space; and the capacity for Frankston Basketball to manage high-performance programs into the future.

Frankston Basketball has successfully lobbied Frankston City who have committed $4m to fund this much needed project. In September 2014 the Victorian state government announced an initial contribution of $2.5m to kick-start the project. Further dialogue is continuing with the state government to secure an additional $1.5m from the state to match Frankston City’s contribution. Frankston Basketball will contribute $1m as part of Stage 1 of this much needed expansion project.

The benefits of this project will see the immediate reduction in competition wait lists; increased participation in Frankston Basketball’s all-abilities competition; mid-week 10pm matches no longer fixtured; greater economic activity for the Frankston region; and Frankston Basketball’s elite representative teams – the Frankston Blues – having a show-court which will rival other associations the Blues compete against in various junior and senior grade competitions.

Frankston Basketball encourages you, as a passionate basketball person and member of the Frankston & wider basketball community to pledge your support and sign this petition to demonstrate the overwhelming support this project has in our community and the benefits it will provide.
