FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER: RETURN TO SPORT (04/06/2020)

Good Afternoon,

We are not far away……

At a Basketball Victoria Zoom conference this morning where all Basketball Associations were represented the following was confirmed:

Return to Sport

22 June has been endorsed by state government to re-open indoor facilities. There is still clarity required around what restrictions will apply to indoor spaces at basketball venues, in particular adjoining courts. Indoor team training should be permitted from this date. Further information will be provided regarding access to Frankston Stadium.

Basketball Victoria in addition to other state sporting bodies has advocated for a competition return date of 11 July.

Confirmation and further details around return dates are expected in the coming days. Please keep in mind that the easing of restrictions remains subject to the status of the virus pandemic.

Season Structure/Registration

We have now reached a point where the feasibility of a shortened W20 season is under review.

FDBA will consult with all clubs and senior teams when a competition return date is confirmed to determine the preferred season structure. Two options will be provided:

Specific details regarding fees and grading will be made available. Our registration portal will be re-opened following confirmation of the season structure.

COVID-19 Precautions

Preventative measures are being carefully considered to mitigate the risk of virus transmission in basketball stadiums. There will be a number of modifications in place when competition returns.

You can expect them to include the following:

Patience and support will be required from all of our members. Signage will be made available at venues and staff will be on hand to assist.

The 11th July is the last weekend of the school holidays and seems a logical date for basketball competition to recommence. We will keep you advised as soon as we receive further updates and confirmation.

Get ready….
