Basketball Victoria has provided the following statement on their website regarding Basketball Victoria Leagues, Competitions, And Events Vaccination Requirement. Statement can be found HERE. Frankston Basketball Stadium will follow the Open Premises Directives, meaning all VJBL players, coaches, spectators, officials, etc., under the age of 18, regardless of vaccination status, may enter the venue. For information regarding other Associations’ requirements, please monitor their websites and social media. FDBA is unable to advise the status of other Associations.
Basketball Victoria can confirm that effective immediately, all participants aged under 18 years will no longer have to show proof of their vaccination status to enter indoor basketball venues within Victoria.
The Victorian Government has announced as part of a number of eased COVID-19 restrictions, that as of Wednesday 15 December at 11.59pm, those under 18 years of age are now defined as excepted persons, so they hold the same status as somebody who is fully vaccinated as per the Open Premises Order.
This change is now reflected in all Basketball Victoria operated leagues and competitions including the VJBL, CBL and any BV operated events or tournaments. However, venue operators still have the choice to implement their own vaccination requirements if they choose to do so.
Please check with your local venue (and association if applicable) as to their vaccination requirements as this update only applies to leagues, competitions, programs and tournaments that Basketball Victoria directly operates, which does not include domestic basketball. Basketball Victoria has written a letter of support for associations to use, if necessary, in their discussions with venue operators, which is available via the button at the bottom of this email.
A reminder that if the space utilised for basketball is being operated only for the purpose of community sport, participants, spectators and workers (including volunteers), are excluded from the vaccination requirement.
If workers undertake work not related to community sport at the facility (for example a café operator at a community sport facility), then they must be fully vaccinated if they are aged 12 years and two months or older. Patrons at the facility for non-community sport reasons must also be fully vaccinated.
Full details on Community Sport and Sector Guidance can be found here.
Basketball Victoria encourages all participants and their families to get vaccinated to help keep Victorian basketball as safe and healthy as we look towards 2022 with as few setbacks as possible.
