Frankston Basketball is thrilled to share an exciting update on our long-awaited stadium redevelopment. On Monday night, Frankston City Council officially awarded the contract to commence construction, marking a huge milestone in bringing our vision to life.
The $60 million redevelopment will transform our stadium into a state-of-the-art sporting facility, ensuring it meets the needs of our rapidly growing basketball community. The project will see the addition of four new courts—expanding us to a 10-court venue—along with a new show court featuring retractable seating for up to 1,000 spectators. The upgrade will also include a dedicated function room and viewing area, as well as much-needed refurbishments to our existing facilities, including bathrooms and change rooms.
Frankston Basketball President Tim Bower expressed his excitement about the development: “This is a game-changer for our association and the entire Frankston community. We have been working tirelessly to secure funding and advocate for this project, and to see it finally come to fruition is incredible. Our players, coaches, officials, and families will soon have access to a world-class venue that will serve us for generations to come.”
Frankston Basketball CEO Wayne Holdsworth echoed these sentiments: “This redevelopment is about more than just basketball. It’s about creating a space that encourages participation at all levels—especially among young girls, women, and people with a disability. The economic and social impact of this project will be enormous, and we can’t wait to see it take shape.”
Frankston City Council described the project as one of “the most ambitious infrastructure project in our City’s history”, reinforcing the importance of the stadium upgrade in providing elite-level facilities and increasing community access to sport.
