From January 1, 2024, an annual Basketball Australia Game Development levy of
- $5.00 (+GST) per competition player
will be introduced nationwide.
The levy will be collected by Basketball Australia and the additional revenue generated will play a pivotal role in sustaining the growth of basketball for generations to come.
This levy will be applicable to all players participating in regular season competitions, excluding coaches, officials, volunteers, and administrators (unless they are also registered as basketball players). Regardless of how frequently a player participates in the sport each week, the levy will only be due on an annual basis (similar to the Basketball Victoria licence).
The introduction of this levy will enable Basketball Australia to expand opportunities within the basketball community, providing enhanced services and support across Australia, expediting their priority areas of coach development, pathways for officials, and digital transformation.
You can find more information about the levy, along with frequently asked questions on the Basketball Australia website.
Note: the $5 (plus GST) BA fee will be paid when a player next registers to a competition season (for existing players this may or may not coincide with the Basketball Victoria licence depending on anniversary dates).

FORFEIT FINES
Based on member feedback teams wanted a deterrent for forfeits as it was an inconvenience for teams and this deterrent was to apply fines at above the normal team sheet rate. The FDBA are often bound to pay referees; incur fixed cost expenses even when forfeits are pre-notified. Notifying teams once a forfeit has been advised adds an administrative burden on the FDBA. The FDBA will endeavor to accommodate all prior requests, but can not guarantee game times can be changed. FDBA understands that unforeseen circumstances can arise whereby it may not be possible to play. With advanced warning (at least 1 week) the FDBA will endeavor to assist to help ensure the scheduled match can proceed. Notifying the FDBA the day before or the day you cannot play, is not advanced warning.
- U8 = $106.00
- U10 = $120.00
- U12 – U16 = $130.00
- U18 – U21 = $142.00
Un-notified forfeits incur an additional $40.00 fee.
Teams must notify FDBA if they are required to forfeit a match:
Phone: 03 9776 8999 – stadium is staffed 9.00am – 10.00pm Mon – Fri, 7.30am – 6.00pm Saturday and 4.00 – 9.00pm Sunday.
Email: competitions@fdba.com.au – include team name and forfeit in subject line.
If your team is forfeiting on the day of notification we recommend calling to ensure the opposing team is notified.
Forfeiting teams are required to pay a fee equal to twice the match fee. This may be waived if advanced notice of 7 days is provided.
An additional $40.00 fee applies for un-notified forfeits.
All teams and their members must be familiar with FDBA Competition By-Laws and Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct. These documents are available from the FDBA website.
By registering and playing at FDBA all members agree to the following;
- The team will abide by the FDBA By-Laws and Participant Behaviour Policy
- The team will comply with BV Codes of Conduct.
- The team will comply with all requirements in relation to Working With Children Check legislation.
- The team will ensure that all fees, match payments and fines incurred will be paid promptly.
