PREMIER LEAGUE BASKETBALL TO LAUNCH UPON RETURN TO BASKETBALL

FDBA are excited to announce the launch of Premier League Basketball to begin shortly after community sports are given the go ahead to resume activity.

The purpose of the league is for elite level players from NBL1 or Big V clubs to be able to return to play as soon as possible, the league will also serve as an opportunity for junior development as U18’s and U21’s VJBL players are eligible to play.

  • The league will consist of 6 teams in both a Men’s and Women’s competition
  • A captain has been selected for each team
  • The captain can select 2 “marquee” players
  • The remaining roster spots will be filled via the Premier League Basketball Draft
  • The league will provide qualified score table officials and high level referees
  • Votes will be collected after each game and an Awards Night will be held at the end of the season

FDBA General Manager Wayne Holdsworth said that the concept was brought to the table by Basketball Development Manager, Jarryd Moss.

“Jarryd will drive this concept to continue the Associations focus on growing basketball participation and developing young players.”

FDBA Basketball Development Manager Jarryd Moss spoke about the league;

“The players are chomping at the bit to play, unfortunately the NBL1 season was cancelled and the Big V season postponed the day before Round 1”

“It will also be a great chance for the senior players to mentor some of the brightest up and coming talent”

“Obviously we can’t announce a date for Round 1 but we have contingencies in place to start the first week of June and every week there after right back until August to still run the league”

Individuals can nominate for the Premier League draft by filling out the form here and returning to programs@fdba.com.au

*Please note Premier League Basketball Draft will be held two weeks prior to Round 1 (date TBC)
