RETURN TO DOMESTIC COMPETITIONS

FDBA is excited to announce that we have return dates for both our Junior and Senior domestic competitions.

Following the announcement by State Government on Sunday 14 June we have been busy planning for a return to court.

After consultation with clubs, teams and other major stakeholders we have decided to proceed with a shortened Winter 2020 season commencing in July.

We understand that this is not everyone’s preferred option but we have made the decision with the long term sustainability of the association in mind.

I’d like to thank everyone for their support and patience during this uncertain period.

We are looking forward to seeing you back on court soon!

Summer 19/20 Season

Due to the length of time that has passed since we were required to suspend competitions in March, we have confirmed the decision to cancel the S19/20 season finals.

Unfortunately, these matches will not be rescheduled.

We thank all teams for their contribution to the season.

Winter 2020 Season

Registration is now open:

  • Junior Competitions
    • 10 week season commencing 13 July (1 week later for U21 teams)
    • Concurrent grading rounds 1 & 2, premiership points awarded and changes made by grading committee following each round
    • 1st & 2nd ranked teams qualify for Grand Final
    • Participation matches during Grand Final round for teams ranked 3rd and below (schedule permitting)
    • Registration closes Sunday 5 July
    • Players must register via an affiliated club
  • Senior Competitions
    • 9 week season commencing 20 July
    • Concurrent grading rounds 1 & 2, premiership points awarded and changes made by grading committee following each round
    • Top 4 teams qualify for 2 round finals series
    • Registration closes Sunday 12 July
    • $20.00 Team Registration Fee – teams that registered prior to closure will have $65.00 match fee credit applied
    • Teams/Players must register via PlayHQ

Fixtures for every competition will be released approx. 5 days in advance:

  • Rounds 1 & 2: released as a single round following grading assessments
  • Rounds 3 – 10: released in full following round 2

COVID-19 Restrictions

Our team has been busy making our venues compliant with government restrictions.

There will be a number of restrictions in place when we return:

  • Limitations on spectators and sign in required
  • Social distancing on benches & seating
  • 20 minute changeover period between matches
  • Immediate departure following matches
  • Restrictions on basketballs being brought into stadiums
  • Requirement for participants to bring own drink bottles (no refills permitted)
  • Hand sanitizer to be used before and after each match
  • Canteen closure

Signage and staff will be available at all venues to assist.

Scheduling

FDBA is committed to maintaining our current playing time of 2 x 18 min halves.

Changeover periods between matches will provide a scheduling challenge for all competitions.

This will see some changes to match times for most competitions while this restriction remains in place:

  • Mid-Week Juniors (U16, U18 & U21): 7.00 pm matches
  • Mid-Week Seniors: 10.00 pm matches
  • Saturdays: Matches between 8.00 am – 8.00 pm

Late games will be rotated fairly among all teams, suitable alternative venues will be hired to reduce these matches where possible.

Some junior teams may be contacted regarding availability to play on alternative days if required.

We will communicate any changes to relevant groups as soon as we are able and we ask for teams to remain flexible.

Summer 20/21 Season

Registration for the Summer season will open in August.

We are planning on returning to our normal season structure for this season.
