FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER (08/07/2020)

Dear Members,

FDBA acknowledges the Victorian Government’s announcement yesterday (July 7) of increased COVID-19 restrictions (return to Stage 3) for Metropolitan Melbourne from 11.59 pm July 8 for a period of 6 weeks (August 20). These restrictions apply to the Frankston region and FDBA will be adopting reactivation status RED – 0 as per Basketball Victoria Return to Sport Guidelines. Unfortunately, this means all basketball activity will cease during this 6 week period.

While this announcement is disappointing, the health and safety of the community is the most important focus for us all at the moment. We must play our part to help curb the spread.

Please visit DHHS for the Premier’s statement on COVID-19 – Stage 3 restrictions.

In line with these restrictions, FDBA is developing a reactivation strategy with a return date of Sat 22nd August in mind. We will be consulting with all of our major stakeholders across domestic clubs, teams and Frankston Blues.

We understand that many of you have made a financial commitment to the Association or Basketball Victoria through licence fees.

Basketball Victoria has provided the following advice regarding the licence fees: Generally speaking, BV’s licence fee is not refundable, as per our terms of registration. However, we are obviously in a unique situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and we understand any significant economic or health-related impact. Please note that we are extending all active licences for the duration of the period that basketball was unable to be played in Victoria.

Please be patient as we work with our governing body to seek further clarification on this matter. FDBA will provide an update on fees/refunds in due course.

I would like to thank all of our members for your ongoing support and dedication to our Association. We were so looking forward to our planned resumption for competitions next week and this extra 6 week period of restrictions will be testing for us all. Please continue to look after yourselves and each other, and if we can support you in any way please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.

Wayne Holdsworth – General Manager
