The Frankston Blues (FDBA) are thrilled to announce the return of Bonnie Deas for the upcoming NBL1 South 2025 season. Bonnie’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring, and her homecoming marks a significant moment for the Frankston Blues family.
Bonnie returns to Frankston after an impressive time at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence (COE) at the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra). In 2024, while playing in the NBL1 East, Deas averaged 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Currently, she’s making her mark in the WNBL, averaging 13 minutes, 5.1 points, and 1.8 rebounds per game with the Sydney Flames.
Her basketball career began with the Blues, starting at triple bottom-age under-12s, where her talent, passion, and dedication were evident from the start. After her successful stint at the COE and making her mark in the WNBL, Bonnie is returning to where it all began — Frankston.
“It was always a no-brainer for me,” Bonnie said. “Frankston has done so much for me throughout my career. It’s like a family, a tribe. The atmosphere is unmatched — from the fans banging pots and pans to the unwavering support of teammates and the club. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
During her time at the COE, Bonnie honed her skills, particularly focusing on her jump shot, with the guidance of coaches like Dave Herbert. This preparation not only elevated her game but also paved the way for her successful transition to the WNBL, where she played alongside some of Australia’s top talent, including Cayla George and Celeste Taylor.
Now back with the Blues, Bonnie is eager to team up with head coach Dean Kinsman, who has been a pivotal mentor since her junior days. “Deano coached me in high school, and he’s been such a huge supporter of my game. Even when I was away at COE, he was always just a phone call away to guide and reassure me,” Bonnie shared.
This season, Bonnie will also have the opportunity to play alongside another familiar face, Lou Brown, her former school coach, adding even more Rowville connections.
As Bonnie prepares to pull on the Blues jersey again, she’s ready to take on the toughest conference in NBL1 with determination and pride. “My journey has been incredible, but Frankston will always feel like home. I’m excited to see how our squad shapes up and to give it my all for the Blues family.”
