Last night the club officially launched our NBL1 South 2025 season with a special event at the Frankston RSL, that saw both the Women’s and Men’s team captains announced.
Lou Brown Named Frankston Blues NBL1 South Women’s Captain
Head Coach Dean Kinsman proudly introduced Lou Brown as the captain of the NBL1 South Women’s team for the 2025 season. Brown, a key figure for the Blues over the past few seasons, has demonstrated consistent growth and leadership on and off the court.
“The person that is going to lead our team won our Most Improved Player last season. And she won our MVP the year before that. You might think it’s a little crazy that the player who won MVP the year before is now the Most Improved Player, but she is because she grew in leadership, in empathy, and in her stature within the team and the league,” Kinsman said.
Highlighting her dominance, he continued, “To have 17 double-doubles in 22 games, and to be just one point or one rebound off in the other five, nearly achieving a perfect double-double season, shows the level of player she is. After playing in the New Zealand National League and returning, she’s ready to lead our team. I get the privilege of seeing her every day at school, and I love her to death. She is going to be a fantastic leader for us. She has recommitted for next year as well, which speaks volumes to who we are and what we do. Our captain is Lou Brown.”
Brown, excited about the role, expressed her passion for the club.
“I love Frankston, and I’m coming back here for my third season. It’s no question every time—I say yes. This is a club that really embodies the idea that ‘it’s bigger than basketball,’ and that is something I truly try to live by. Basketball can be so consuming as an identity and as what you do, but this club has taught me that it’s so much more than that and can give you so much more than that. Even though I’ve been named captain, our team is full of leaders in their own respect, and my name will just be the one on the stat sheet at the end of the game. I’m really excited to be back!”

Lucas Barker Named Frankston Blues NBL1 South Men’s Captain
For the Men’s team, Head Coach Andrew Harms announced the return of Lucas Barker as captain.
“I always say this, and I’ve said it numerous times before: when pressure enters the room, as a coaching staff and in any organization, ‘the eyes will always find the leader.’ This person has demonstrated that over and over again,” Harms said.
Reflecting on Barker’s growth, he added, “What I’m most proud of is his ability to work on those pro-social skills, his ability to communicate, and his ability to bring guys in. He has become a trusted pulse of the group—how we are going Xs and Os-wise—and it should be no surprise that our captain is Lucas Barker.”
Barker, a cornerstone of the club, shared his excitement about continuing his leadership role.
“I am really glad to be in this position again at this club. Last year was technically my last year under contract, and I don’t think we even got through the season before I wanted to re-sign. This club has been amazing since I stepped in. The number of people who come to a season launch—where some clubs don’t even have these kinds of nights—from the volunteers at the domestic level to the top NBL1 level, you can see this club is one big family. Everyone works together, and that’s why it’s such a special moment to be in this position, not just as a leader for the younger generation but as part of a whole playing group, both men’s and women’s teams.”
Looking ahead, Barker expressed confidence in the team’s championship aspirations.
“Other clubs are chasing players to try to beat us, which is a great place to be. I’m really thankful to Harmsy for putting me in this position, and I’m really excited to see what this season holds. I think we can not only win a title but a national title.”
