FDBA NAMED FINALIST IN 2025 VDSR AWARDS

Frankston Basketball Named Finalist for the 2025 Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation (VDSR) Awards.

Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA) has been recognised for its commitment to inclusive sport, being named a finalist in the 2025 VDSR Awards.

The FDBA has been nominated in the category of “Sport Initiative or Event of the Year” for its inaugural Inclusion Tournament, held on January 11th at the Dreamstreet Lending Arena.

The tournament was a celebration of inclusive sport, featuring Wheelchair Basketball, Walking Basketball, and an Inclusion competition that brought together teams from across Victoria. Participants of all ages and abilities competed in both social and competitive formats.

Tanya Thomas, FDBA’s Programs Support Officer and lead organiser of the tournament, said the event was designed to be a true showcase of belonging through basketball.

“The Inclusion Tournament was about creating a space where everyone, regardless of their ability, felt seen, valued, and part of something bigger,” said Thomas. “To now be recognised as a finalist for a state award is an incredible honour, not just for Frankston Basketball, but for every participant, volunteer and support person who helped bring it to life.”

This nomination follows FDBA’s success at the 2024 VDSR Awards, where the Association won the same category for the Blind and Low Vision Basketball program, now known as Bell Ball. The back-to-back recognition cements Frankston Basketball as a leader in inclusive sport across Victoria.

The winners of the 2025 VDSR Awards will be announced on August 26th.

Frankston Basketball thanks all the players, coaches, staff, and families who continue to support inclusive basketball pathways, and extends best wishes to the other outstanding finalists.
