The Frankston Blues are excited to announce the first and second team coaches for the 2019/2020 VJBL season, introduced by our Coordinators Kerryn Mitchell (Girls) and Scott Christensen (Boys).

Frankston Blues Juniors (Girls)

Former Blues VC Championship winning player Rebecca Lanting steps into the Under 12.1’s Head Coaching role. She has big shoes to fill but is more than ready for the challenge, having previously coached multiple seasons at Victorian Championship level. Frankston’s favourite daughter Stephanie Reid will coach our Under 12.2’s, ably assisted by fellow NBL1 point guard Tegan Fiamengo.

Needing no introduction, Olympian Natalie Porter moves up to head coach the Under 14.1’s after a successful year with the Under12.1’s; highlighted by a silver medal in the National Junior Classic. Former NBL & SEABL championship winning player and current Under 14.1 boys head coach Nick Tenner has seen the light and made his way over to the girls program to coach our Under 14.2’s. Between Nat & Nick if our Under 14 girls don’t improve their post game this season, there’s something wrong!

Stephanie Reid is doubling up as the Under 16.1’s assistant coach, to Najeal Young. We are excited to welcome former WNBL player Leigh O’Reilly to the Frankston Blues to coach our Under 16.2 girls. Leigh was an uncompromising player; is an excellent communicator and a wonderful addition to our coaching fraternity.

We are equally excited to welcome another former WNBL player Renay Bresnan to head up our Under 18.1’s. Renay has coached many years of senior basketball both at McKinnon and Mornington and will be a real asset in helping the Under 18’s make the transition from junior to senior basketball. As if that wasn’t enough, we are also fortunate to have Stephen Fagan to coach our Under 18.2’s. Steve is well known on the girls side and brings a wealth of basketball knowledge with him; having head coached multiple State teams as well as being a long time assistant coach at SEABL level.

We are losing some quality coaches in Adam Kerr, Paul Groat and Scott McFarlane, all heading over to the boys side. We thank them for their service to the girls program and wish them well; particularly Adam who is busy preparing our Under 14.1’s for Nationals; a monumental achievement!

We welcome back many of our current coaches, as well as a plethora of talent from our Youth League and NBL1 program. It’s exciting times when the Senior and Junior programs come together in the way they currently are. We are one club and this has never been more evident.

Frankston Blues Juniors (Boys)

This year I am very proud of the group of coaches we have put together. Notably the Under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s are headed by coaches returning to the same year-born groups as the 2018/19 season.

Stepping into the role of Under 12.1’s head coach is former NBL player Campbell Robinson. Campbell has been working with the 2009-borns for two seasons now and is no doubt keen to take them all the way to VC Championship. Assisting Campbell is legendary SEABL point guard Chris ‘Golden Hands’ Ash. Ashy is a great signing for the boys program and we’re excited to welcome him aboard.

Daniel Spangler takes the reigns of the Under 14.1’s and is confident of a VC Championship berth, this will be Daniel’s third year with group. Assisting Daniel in the Under 14.2 is current Under 14.4’s coach Trav Mann.

The Under 16.1’s will be headed up by Boy’s Coaching Coordinator and long time State mentor; me (Scott Christiansen). I have been working with this group for many years now and the time is right for a crack at the VC Championship title. Heading up the Under 16.2’s is former Blues SEABL player, John Jackson. John brings a wealth of basketball knowledge with him and is a big asset to the boys program.

After securing the club’s first Under 14’s Nationals appearance since 2002, third in club history, Adam Kerr has decided his work in the girls program is done (for now). We’re very pleased to have Adam coming over to head up our Under 18.1 boys. He is a dedicated coach who is looking forward to the challenge of leading the Under 18.1 boys back into VC.

I would like to welcome new coach Tim Wells from Frankston Blues Youth League Men. Tim will be taking our youngest boys in the 2011-born double bottom boys.
