Frankston Blues (FDBA) are proud to be able to announce our coaches for the Junior Boys Program for the upcoming 2021/22 VJBL Season.
Our Under 12.1s will be led by first-time, Team 1 coach and Frankston Blues Youth League player Tim Wells. This is Tim’s third year with the 2011 born boys and has given a phenomenal effort during the trying times of the past two seasons. We wish Tim good luck.
The 2012 boys will continue to be led by former SEABL/Big V player and Frankston Blues Junior, Luke D’Alcorn. The age group will also be coached by Wayne Cooper, Nick Fulton, Tom Garrett (NBL1/Big V), Cameron Heyes, and Graeme Polglase.
With a head coach still to be confirmed, our Under 14.1s will be assisted by Frankston Blues’ star and one of the NBL1’s highest-scoring players in Lachlan Barker. Off the playing court Lachlan has blossomed into an outstanding club person, assisting in the Under 21’s in 2020 and coaching in the Associations development programs and online offerings during lockdowns. Lachlan brings his playing experiences from Tasmania State teams and his time with the Sydney Kings as a development player. Joining Lachlan is an assistant role, Ben Perry (Big V) will also make his first appearance in a coaching role for the club
The 2009 born boys will be coached by Basketball Victorian programs coach and 2020/21 Under 16.1’s coach Brad Szalek. This will be Brad’s fifth year with the club. Brad will be assisted by Frankston Blues junior, Big V and NBL1 player Josh Cleary.
We are also proud to announce that both Brett and David Andersen will continue to coach together. David Andersen returned to the Blues in the 2021 NBL1 season, and continues to pass on his experience and basketball wisdom to the next generation of Frankston basketballers.
The Under 14’s coaching team will also include Steve Denton, Zoe Strimling, and Phil Wright.
Our Under 16.1’s will be coached by Daniel Spangler. This is Daniel’s fifth year with the 2007 born boys, with the goal of competing for a VC Championship. He will be assisted by NBL/NBL1 big-man Daniel Trist. Dan’s basketball resume shows a wealth of experience including his time at the AIS, Lafayette Leopards (NCAA) and NBL with Melbourne United, South East Melbourne Phoenix, and New Zealand Breakers.
The 2008 born boys, will again be coached by Frankston Blues Boys Coaching Co-Ordinator and recently announced Basketball Victoria Metro Under 16’s Assistant Coach Scott Christiansen, assisted by Tony Smyth and Darcey Strauss.
The Under 16’s coaching team also includes Stuart Andersen, Daniel Buchanan, Scott Enno, Tuakana Uaongo, and Daniel Vriesen.
Our Under 18.1s will by coached by Scott Nicey. Scott brings years of experience from his time with Basketball Victoria’s State development programs and teams. Scott will be assisted by Bryan Dick.
The Under 18.2s will be coached by NBL1 Team Manager/Assistant Coach and club legend Paul Groat. Assisting Paul will be NBL1 Star import Dillon Stith. Stith joined the Blues NBL1 Men’s team in 2021 following his time as an injury replacement with Melbourne United. Joining them in the Under 18s coaching team will be Steve Lincoln and Mark Vella.
