FRANKSTON BLUES WOMEN RETIRE MELANIE COTTA’S NUMBER 20

Prior to Saturday night, hanging from the rafters, was only four retired singlet numbers; Mark Ridgeway (32), Sue Barton (7), Rhys Newsome (54), and Grant Dennis (12).

Saturday night the Frankston Blues (FDBA) made a very important announcement and presentation.

As she walked thru a guard of honour of former teammates, current Senior Blues athletes, and her family, Melanie Cotta’s number 20 joined that list.

In front of an upstanding crowd, FDBA CEO Wayne Holdsworth addressed the crowd.

“Mel has been an ornament to the game. An inspiration to young women in the Frankston region. And a significant contributor to sport in this region. Please stand and join me in congratulating Mel Cotta.”

Cotta’s career with the Frankston Blues concluded in 2015, after playing 287 games since 1999.

And her retired singlet number now hangs above Frankston Basketball Stadium’s show court.
