NATIONAL JUNIOR CLASSIC 2023 RECAP

The Frankston Blues (FDBA) showcased their talent and determination at Basketball Victoria’s National Junior Classic 2023, with five teams representing the club. The tournament was filled with exciting matchups, intense competition, and memorable performances from the young athletes.

The Under 12 Girls emerged as champions, securing the gold medal by defeating the Kilsyth Cobras in a thrilling final with a score of 35-32. The team displayed remarkable teamwork and resilience throughout the tournament, with Addison Mole shining as she received the Grand Final MVP award for her outstanding contributions. (Recap)

Meanwhile, the Under 12 Boys displayed their skills and finished in a respectable fifth place. They secured a victory against the Sturt Sabres with a score of 48-39. Chase Johnson and Zac Taylor stood out as the highest scorers for the team, averaging 15 and 14.5 points per game respectively, showcasing their offensive prowess.

In the Under 14 girls’ competition, the Frankston Blues had a solid showing, finishing with two wins for the weekend. Although they competed in the B-competition, the team exhibited great determination and effort. Ziva Whiston emerged as the top scorer for the weekend, averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game.

The Under 16 Boys had a commendable performance, securing a sixth-place finish in a highly competitive tournament. Their journey came to an end with a close loss to Sunbury, with a final score of 65-60. Throughout the tournament, Denver Warry showcased his scoring abilities and emerged as the top scorer, averaging 17 points per game.

Similarly, the Under 16 Girls fought hard throughout the tournament, finishing in sixth place. In their final game, they faced a tough opponent in the Eastern Mavericks, with the Mavericks emerging victorious with a score of 67-44. Sitaya Fagan stood out as the top scorer for the team, averaging 14.5 points per game and displaying her offensive skills.
