SITAYA FAGAN SELECTED FOR AUSTRALIAN SAPPHIRES

The Frankston Blues (FDBA) is proud to announce that Sitaya Fagan, a talented player from our Junior Blues program, has been selected for the prestigious Australia Sapphires Under 16 Women’s team. Fagan’s inclusion in the team marks a significant milestone in her basketball career and a testament to her dedication and hard work.

The Australia Sapphires are set to compete in the upcoming FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship, which will be held in Amman, Jordan. Australia will be defending their Asian Championship title, having clinched gold in the previous two U16 championships, including the most recent one in 2022. (Basketball Australia Announcement)

Sitaya Fagan’s basketball journey at the Frankston Blues started when she joined our Under 12s teams. Since then, she has continuously excelled and demonstrated her potential as an elite-level player. Fagan’s impressive performances caught the attention of Basketball Victoria’s High-Performance programs, leading to her involvement in the National Performance Program and Victorian Metro State Teams.

Natalie Porter, the Head of Coaching of Junior Girls and the Under 16.1 Girls team, has been coaching and mentoring Sitaya throughout her basketball journey. Speaking about Fagan’s selection for the Australia Sapphires, Porter expressed her excitement and praised Sitaya’s achievement.

“This is such an incredible opportunity for Taya and I am so proud of her for making this very talented squad. Taya is a versatile athlete that will offer the Sapphires so much at both ends of the floor. I am excited to follow her journey in Jordan and know that the Blues family will certainly be cheering her on from afar.”

The entire Frankston Blues community joins in congratulating Sitaya Fagan on her selection for the Australia Sapphires. The club will be eagerly cheering for Sitaya as she represents both the club and the country in the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship.
