Frankston Basketball is proud to announce the Frankston Bobcats as the 2024 Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA) Club of the Year. This recognition is a testament to the club’s incredible resilience, growth, and commitment to fostering basketball participation in the local community.
Over the past few seasons, the Bobcats have navigated a challenging period, marked by changes in management and restructuring. Despite these hurdles, the club’s leadership, spearheaded by Adam Billing, remained steadfast in their vision to rebuild and strengthen the Bobcats. Their efforts have paid off tremendously, as the club has not only stabilised but emerged as one of the fastest-growing and well-organised clubs within Frankston Basketball.
The club’s journey has been remarkable. From a high of 46 teams and 350 participants in Winter 2022, the transition period saw numbers dip to 22 teams (170 participants) in Winter 2023 and 26 teams (186 participants) in Summer 2023/24. However, the resilience and strategic leadership of the club, now led by Adam Walravens, contributed to a steady resurgence. In Winter 2024, the club fielded 24 teams, with 60% of them reaching a grand final—an incredible feat that showcased the club’s competitiveness and player development.
Building on that momentum, the Bobcats have seen a significant uptick in participation, boasting 33 teams and 247 players in the current Summer 2024/25 season. Projections for Winter 2025 indicate further growth, with an expected 37 teams and 270 participants—solidifying the club’s position as a key driver of grassroots basketball in Frankston.
The Bobcats’ success extends beyond numbers. Their commitment to providing a positive and inclusive basketball experience and upholding the values of teamwork and sportsmanship has made them a standout club within the FDBA. The club’s rebranding efforts and operational improvements have also played a crucial role in revitalising its identity and reputation.
For their perseverance, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the sport, the Frankston Bobcats are deservedly crowned the 2024 FDBA Club of the Year. Frankston Basketball congratulates the Bobcats on this achievement and looks forward to seeing their continued success in the seasons ahead.
