The Frankston Blues are pleased to announce Marita Boomsma as Head of Coaching – Girls for the 2026/27 season and beyond.
A familiar face within the Frankston Blues community, Marita brings a unique blend of elite playing experience, coaching knowledge, education background and a genuine connection to the club.
Marita’s basketball journey began with the Blues, progressing through the junior pathway before going on to play SEABL, earn a full athletic scholarship to Auburn University in the United States and play professionally in the WNBL and Europe.
Marita currently serves as Head of Girls’ Basketball at Peninsula Grammar and also coaches within the Frankston Blues Junior Girls program.
Having lived the Frankston Blues pathway herself, Marita understands the impact the club can have on young players both on and off the court. Her passion for helping girls grow as athletes and people will be a valuable addition to the program.
“To now have the opportunity to help lead the Frankston Blues Junior Girls Program feels like life has come full circle. I’m passionate about creating an environment where players feel like they belong, coaches feel supported and valued, and everyone feels part of something bigger than themselves.
“My hope is that every player walks through our doors knowing she belongs. A place where she’s challenged, encouraged and knows people genuinely care about her.
“Frankston Blues gave me far more than a basketball career. It gave me lifelong friendships, incredible opportunities and memories I’ll always treasure.
“Now it’s my turn to give something back, and I’m really looking forward to working alongside Lou Brown and helping shape the next chapter of girls’ basketball at Frankston.

Marita will be supported by current NBL1 Women’s captain Lou Brown, who will take on the role of Development Coaching Coordinator. Lou’s appointment provides a valuable pathway opportunity within the Frankston Blues coaching structure, while giving the Girls program another strong leader and role model for junior athletes to learn from.
“I’ve been with Frankston for the past four years and have always felt incredibly supported by the club. I’m excited for the opportunity to give back to an organisation that has given me so much and hopefully make a positive impact on the girls at the Blues. Through my years of coaching at Rowville Sports Academy, I’ve developed a passion for coaching and helping young athletes grow both on and off the court. I’m also looking forward to working alongside Marita, learning from her experience, and continuing to develop as a coach,” Lou said.
The club is excited to have Marita and Lou step into these important roles and looks forward to the continued growth of the Girls program under Marita’s leadership.
