Frankston Blues Set for Qualifying Final Clash with Knox
The Frankston Blues Men will host the Knox Raiders in an NBL1 South Qualifying Final this Saturday night at Jubilee Park Stadium.
The two sides last met in a one-point thriller, with Frankston securing an 86–85 victory. Jeremy Combs converted clutch free throws to give the Blues the lead before Trazarien White’s floating shot bounced around the ring and fell away at the buzzer.
Austin Shelley will be one to watch after gaining increased ball-handling and facilitating opportunities alongside captain Lucas Barker, while American imports Dibaji Walker and Jeremy Combs enter the finals in strong form. Walker is averaging 16.5 points per game, while Combs has made an immediate impact since joining the Blues mid-season, averaging 21.1 points per game.
Knox will again look to Kobe Williamson and Trazarien White, who combined for 31 points in the teams’ previous meeting. White has been one of the competition’s leading scorers this season, averaging 23.3 points per game.
The Raiders will be without Keli Leaupepe after he suffered an ACL injury during the past week. Leaupepe, who is part of the Sydney Kings’ NBL squad, scored 13 points in the previous matchup. The Frankston Blues wish Keli all the best with his recovery.
The game will also feature another meeting with former Blue Igor “Iggy” Hadziomerovic, who is sure to receive a combination of appreciative cheers and a few playful jeers from the Frankston crowd.
It promises to be a great night of finals basketball, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00pm at Jubilee Park Stadium.
The winner will book a place in the Preliminary Final, where they will meet the winner of Melbourne and Sandringham the following week.
