NBL1 Women vs Melbourne Tigers

A second half comeback handed Melbourne a 77-71 victory over Frankston

Trailing by one-point at half time, the Tigers outscored the Blues 42-32 in the second half to come away with a six-point win.

Monique Conti was outstanding for the Tigers and ended the game with 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Briana Gray had 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

JoAnna Smith kept the Blues in the contest with 26 points, while Stephanie Reid shot 50 per cent from outside the arc to end the game with 18 points.

Both sides failed to stamp their authority in the opening term as defence was at a minimum, however the Blues led by one-point, courtesy of 11 points from Smith. Both sides were clutch from three-point territory and shot over 50 per cent from outside the arc.

A late triple from the Tori Jackson gave the Blues a four-point lead at half time. However, the Blues struggled to contain the Tigers work inside the paint and were outscored 16-6 in the key in the first half.

The Tigers gained the ascendency in the third term to lead by one-point with a quarter to play. The Blues led by as much as five points in the fourth quarter, before a triple from Kasey Burton levelled the scores.

The lead changed four times in the final quarter, before six consecutive points by the Tigers sealed the win.

NBL1 Men vs Melbourne Tigers

Melbourne completed a clean sweep over Frankston this weekend with a 103-92 victory at MSAC.

With their women’s team victorious earlier in the day, the Tigers’ men’s side proved too good for the Blues on their home court.

The Tigers had the momentum in the first quarter and held an eight-point lead at quarter time. Frankston improved in the second quarter and overturned the deficit to lead by three points at the half.

Melbourne had to raise their game to regain the lead and their comeback got off to the best possible start when Nic Pozoglou shot a three. The Tigers scored 37 points in the third quarter to hold an 11-point advantage with a quarter to play.

Frankston tried to claw their way back into the contest in the last quarter, but they could only match the Tigers 25 points in the term as Melbourne held on to an 11-point win.

Pozoglou finished just shy of a triple-double, ending the game with 25 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, while Dane Pineau had 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.

Damon Bozeman had 33 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Blues, while Igor Hadziomerovic (23 points) and Lachlan Barker (20 points) combined for 43 points.
