Alister MacDonald is returning to the Frankston RSL Blues for the 2020 NBL1 season, re-signing with the 2019 preliminary finalists on a 1 year contract.

The former NBL development player (Melbourne Tigers) averaged 7.5 points points in just 19 minutes per game in the inaugural NBL1 season.

Head Coach Andrew Harms felt McDonald brought a much needed experienced presence and leadership to the mens program in 2019.

“Al has been a consistently high performer at this level for many years and from the outside looking in you don’t see the professional way he goes about preparing himself each and every week.”

“That professionalism really rubbed off on our group, especially our younger players, coupled with his on-court leadership he was critical to our success.”

In 2020 Harms will look to McDonald to continue to give an offensive spark.

“He can score in bunches and at times was impossible to defend at practice.”

“Being his second year and feeling more comfortable in our system we see him building on his offensive game and continuing to bring energy and effort at the defensive end.”

“Furthermore we see his leadership profile blossoming as he continues to lead by action and delving deeper into mentoring our next crop of Blues stars.”

“Plus as a new dad he will get more sleep on our road trips… which he will be thankful for!”

MacDonald’s re-signing follows that of Blues captain Igor Hadziomerovic returning next season on a three- year contract, and Lachlan Bakrer returning on a two-year contract, with further announcements expected to be unveiled over coming weeks.
