It is with great sadness that we inform you that Merv Hindmarsh left us in the early morning of Saturday 8th February 2020, suddenly and unexpectedly.
A member of the the Frankston referee family, he was a husband, father, brother and son but most of all he was our friend.
Merv attended a referee’s course within 2001, which commenced his journey through basketball. In 2002 he was awarded the Merv Searle Memorial Award for being the best ‘Association Member’; and in 2003 he was elected the Vice President of the branch. In 2005 Merv joined the Junior Panel and shortly after, achieved his Level 2. Merv also completed 2 years on Big V. In 2007 he was elected President of the Branch. Merv also kept up refereeing domestically as often as he could.
Merv never rested on his past performances, he always gave 100% in everything he did.
Those of us who had the joy of working with Merv through basketball and becoming firm friends, will forever have the memories of an honourable man who was kind and compassionate and brought out the best in all of us.
As a sign of respect referees will wear black arm bands on court for the remainder of this week.
The funeral will be held in Melbourne with more details to come, when they are known.
Rest In Peace Merv
