Frankston Blues (FDBA) are proud to begin the process of preparing for the upcoming 2020/21 VJBL season.

This has started with the appointment of the Girls and Boys Coaching Coordinator roles.

With a primary focus to continue to promote and develop female athletes who have a strong desire to compete at both ends of the court, Kerryn Mitchell spoke about her re-appointment as Girls Coaching Coordinator.

“Basketball Victoria has identified that there is a noticeable underrepresentation of female coaches at the elite level. This is mainly due to a lack of opportunity for female coaches to hone their craft in the higher levels of the VJBL. Therefore a major focus of our girl’s program is the recruitment and development of female coaches.”

“The purpose of this is two-fold. Firstly, it provides excellent role models for our young female athletes. You can’t be what you can’t see. Secondly, it contributes to lessening this gender gap in terms of leadership in the wider basketball community.”

“Our coaches did an amazing job this past season (2019/20) of upskilling these competitive athletes and keeping them engaged during lockdown. As I mentioned previously, our coaches have proven themselves to be transformational rather than transactional. This selfless attitude is something that I, and indeed, our whole club can be proud of”.

Focusing on getting players into state development programs and beyond, Scott Christansen spoke his re-appointment as Boys Coaching Coordinator,

“The past few years have seen a significant increase in Frankston’s boys players represented at a (Basketball Vicotria) state development level, and this is something we are looking to continue”

“Our young developing coaches are continuing to improve, progressing into potentially taking age group 1’s teams, while in many cases still eligible to play juniors themselves”

“Although we aren’t quite sure what next season looks like or when it might start, it’s a positive feeling to be in the process of recommencement. I look forward to seeing light at the end of the tunnel, getting back on the courts and continuing to develop wonderful people, both players and coaches alike”

The next stage is the opening of expressions of interest for head coach and assistant coaches. To register your interest in a head coach or assistant coach role please click HERE

Potential try-out dates are being assessed and we are working as close as possible with VJBL (Basketball Victoria) to plan multiple options.
