INTRODUCING… PENINSULA AUSSIE HOOPS ONLINE

After the recent announcement that the associations on the Peninsula (Chelsea, Frankston, Mornington, Southern Peninsula and Westernport) had “pulled down borders” in an effort to begin to work collaboratively for the betterment of basketball in the area, the group is pleased to announce its next big project – Peninsula Aussie Hoops Online!

FDBA General Manager, Wayne Holdsworth shared his thoughts on the opportunity to hit the ground running with this working group;

“The collaborative intent by all Peninsula Basketball Associations established recently has started to materialise with the launch of the Peninsula Aussie Hoops Online program; a proud moment for all Peninsula Basketball Associations”.

With the support and guidance of governing bodies, Basketball Australia (BA), and Basketball Victoria (BV), the group has been working hard behind the scenes on a program that will provide grassroots participants an opportunity to be able to access training programs remotely and in an online format.

BV Basketball Development Officer, Samantha Kelsall spoke about BV’s support of the program;

“It has been great to see a group of associations work together to provide their community with a basketball program that has been appropriately adapted for the situation”.

“It is our job to provide people with the opportunity to participate in sport and this is the prime example of bringing the sport to the people”.

“I look forward to seeing this program become the success I know it will be and allow more children to experience the great sport of basketball”.

The Peninsula Aussie Hoops Online program will run 3 afternoons per week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) at 4:00 pm starting on Sunday the 23rd of August and running until Thursday the 17th of September.

Sessions will be live and interactive so that we can provide feedback and coaching for participants in real-time, all sessions will be recorded and uploaded along with a list of drills and instructions so that it can be referred back to by families and participants in their own time.

We are excited to be able to provide this program for families completely FREE of charge, there is an option for families to purchase the Aussie Hoops Participant Pack which includes a size 4 basketball, personalised singlet, sticker sheet, and a backpack.

FDBA Basketball Development Manager, Jarryd Moss spoke about the opportunity to be a part of this project;

“Basketball is such a great sport for many reasons but right now the flexibility of the sport, in particular, allows our community to keep playing!”.

“Obviously we’d love to be together with our friends and teammates at the stadium or at an outdoor court but this Online Program allows our community, particularly the grassroots participants, the ability to still learn the skills of the game and to start their journey as a part of the Aussie Hoops community”.
