BLUES FROM HOME – WEEK 5

BLUES FROM HOME – WEEK 5

As we move into the final 4 weeks of Term 3 we wanted to give our families a break from the regular Blues From Home schedule, no doubt everyone is feeling a bit of ‘Zoom fatigue’ and we would all much prefer to be back in the stadium seeing you all in person and watching our kids run up and down the floorboards.

For now, though this is the best we can do and is still a great way to engage with our players, provide them with the structure in their basketball training, and hopefully continue to teach them some new skills or refine their current skills. So why not have a crack!

We are excited to be able to provide our U16’s and U18’s players with the opportunity to complete the theory portion of the Referee Beginner Course in an online format. Thank you to FDBA Referee Advisor, Chris Morrey for agreeing to run these sessions and to Junior Girls Coaching Coordinator, Kerryn Mitchell for being the vision behind this.

We’ve partnered with Bree-Anna Vincent and MindFit to provide online training for our coaches focusing on human behaviour, mindset, empowered emotions, and energy & personality types. As well as how to navigate coming back into sport after such a challenging time.

Finally, on Friday morning, we have added a ‘Body & Mind’ session that will focus on helping our athletes connect with themselves through yoga & pilates practices for mobility and strengthening as well as some guided meditation to close the session.

We pride ourselves on our resilience as a club and our ability to have a solution based mindset. Our players, coaches and parents continue to find ways to move forward during these times – please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or feedback about the programs.

We hope to have some good news about our return to basketball once again, in the coming weeks – until then we will continue to ride the wave!

New Programs

‘Train With Me’ (Girls Only) – Some of our Senior Women’s players take our Junior Blues Girls through an individual skills session aimed at challenging our players fundamental skills from home. Sessions will include ball handling, footwork, some shooting (pending the weather) and defensive footwork.

‘Whistle School’ – This course will cover the theory portion of the Referee Beginner Course. Completion of this course will allow our players to begin their practical, on-court training as soon as restrictions ease and we can return to domestic competitions. FDBA Referee Advisor, Chris Morrey will be leading the course. All participants must register HERE

‘Body & Mind’ – This is program is designed to allow our athletes to connect with their minds and bodies, each session we will complete some yoga and pilates movements to work on mobility and strengthening of the core followed by some guided meditation to finish off the session.
