NBL1 PREPARED ME FOR WNBL: REID

Frankston Blues superstar Steph Reid says playing in NBL1 last season helped prepare her for the WNBL.

Reid averaged 21.6 points for the Blues last season, which included recording a 50-point game against the Launceston Tornadoes. She then signed with the Southside Flyers in the 2019/20 WNBL season and she says having such a strong campaign in NBL1 ensured she entered the WNBL in the right mind frame.

“It gave me a lot of confidence coming in knowing that I had played quite confidentially, and I was happy with my season against players that were in that league,” Reid told NBL1’s The Fast Break.

“Every week you’re coming up against WNBL players, so then when you go into WNBL, it’s not the biggest step-up. It’s not out of reach.

“I felt like I was really prepared coming out of that NBL1 season.”

Reid also mentioned it was disappointing NBL1 was cancelled this season, as Frankston had “big goals” for the campaign.

The Blues had signed Reid, Kiera Rowe, Courtney Wilkins, Saraid Taylor, Tahlia Tupaea, Ella Batish, Lara McSpadden and Samara Hill for the 2020 season.
