Dear members,
Exciting news from the state government with junior basketball permitted to resume soon.
FDBA is planning for a return date of 23 November.
Government/BV
Please use the link below to view a summary of the government’s restrictions and changes:
Indoor sport has important changes forecast for 23 November – a patron cap of up to 100 people with group or class size up to 20 people
The major hurdle still facing basketball is definitions around what constitutes indoor ‘Facilities / Zones / Spaces’.
We expect Basketball Victoria to provide confirmation this week that 20 people will be permitted per court for basketball activities.
This would see Orange-20 apply from their guidelines:
Summer 2020/21 Season
Please find DRAFT calendars and registration closing dates for domestic competitions linked below:
We will provide confirmation on season start dates as soon as we can.
We understand that 2 weeks is a very short period of time to organise teams for a return to competitions, especially with a season changeover and new database (PlayHQ) to navigate.
However, we are also committed to ensuring that teams that are ready to resume may be provided an opportunity to do so.
It is our plan to offer a flexible registration period for clubs this season up until the first round of the regular season next year.
Grading fixtures will be completed on a weekly basis until the Christmas break and teams that are registered before each weeks closing date will be included in that round of competition.
For example:
Phase | Week | Registrations Close (Sundays) |
Fixture Published (Wednesdays) |
Saturday |
U8 – U14 Boys & Girls |
||||
Grading | 1 | 22-Nov-20 | 25-Nov-20 | 28-Nov-20 |
Grading | 2 | 29-Nov-20 | 2-Dec-20 | 05-Dec-20 |
Grading | 3 | 6-Dec-20 | 9-Dec-20 | 12-Dec-20 |
Grading | 4 | 13-Dec-20 | 16-Dec-20 | 19-Dec-20 |
Regular Season | 1 | 17-Jan-20 | 22-Jan-21 | 30-Jan-21 |
Players can be moved between teams at any time during this period with FDBA notified for grading consideration.
Grading outcomes will be a significant challenge especially with spectator restrictions but weekly changes will help mitigate this somewhat.
This process will be similar for senior teams.
Training:
Current DET advice for schools approves the hire of their facilities:
https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/Pages/coronavirus-school-facilities.aspx
However, many clubs may be unable to access their regular training facilities priors to competitions resuming.
Where you can consider outdoor training if not already doing so.
Non-contact indoor training for children is also permitted in the government’s summary from 9 Nov with restrictions.
When we gain clarity around the indoor ‘Facility / Zone / Space’ issue we are hoping to provide evening bookings at Frankston Stadium for domestic team training.
We’ll update you on this as soon as we can.
