Huge congratulations to Frankston Blues NBL1 star Tessa Lavey, who has today been announced in the Australian Opals 2020 Tokyo Team. (Basketball Australia Announcement)
The team, ranked number two in the world, has been drawn in Pool C, with pool matches against Belgium, Puerto Rico and China tipping off on 27 July in Saitama Super Arena (Tokyo).
This will be Lavey’s second Olympic appearance following the 2016 Rio Olympics.
More recently Tessa won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the gold Coast and Silver at the 2018 FIBA World Cup in Spain, with the Australian Opals.
A key piece to our current Frankston Blues Women’s (9-0) undefeated NBL South season, Tessa Lavey currently leads NBL1 South in per game assists with 7.66 backed up by averaging 16.77 points and 6.77 rebounds per game.
FDBA Chief Executive Office Wayne Holdsworth congratulated Lavey’s achievement.
“We are so proud of Tessa and her selection rewards the enormous talent she has and commitment to hard work she demonstrates every day, on behalf of all her new friends here at Frankston we say congratulations and go well!”
