Head Coach Duncan Berg spoke about the season.
“Wow! What an amazing week!”
“I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of some championship teams in the past and have even won as the underdog before, but they were all single game grand finals. You only have to prepare once and you have a chance to sneak up on a team who isn’t as prepared. It’s one thing to upset a team in one game and something totally different to upset a team twice in a week.”
“To win two games against an awesome team like Camberwell, who had not lost a single game all season, is incredible and an achievement that we will cherish for a very long time. They were led by the Coach of the Year and had the league MVP, the best big man, best 3P shooters and best point guard.”
“But we have a special group of guys with a special bond and this is a great reward for such a tough season. It’s great for the guys who were part of the return of the Youth League program in 2018 and it’s great for the young guys who are going to take over in coming years. To be down double digits in each of the last four games and still manage to win this championship shows the toughness and resilience of this group.”
“I’d like to thank everyone at Frankston for their support, from Patch (Parveen Batish)as assistant coach, Jules and the rest of the parents who helped as team managers, Harmsy and Jacko for welcoming me into the coaching group and of course all the players who let me coach them this season. Best wishes to the players who have finished with a championship and it will be lots of hard work (and fun) for the next group of kids to try and emulate what they have achieved for this club – we have a lot to live up to.”
