“WHILE MY HAIRSTYLE IS CHANGING, I’M NOT” – PETA MURPHY

Federal MP and good friend of the FDBA, Peta Murphy recently began a new treatment to combat her metastatic breast cancer diagnosis.

Peta is confronting breast cancer for a second time, but rather than taking it easy during chemotherapy, she wants to make sure others with breast cancer “know that they are seen, heard and counted.”

Peta was first diagnosed with breast cancer at age 37, and underwent a double mastectomy in order to beat it.

However, the cancer returned eight years later, just two days after she was sworn in to parliament.

FDBA CEO Wayne Holdsworth said that the Federal Labor Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy “is an inspiration.”

“Today’s story should inspire us all to understand, empathise but importantly DO! Whilst Peta was going through a very rough patch in recent times she continued her promotion and advocacy of the Frankston region and its requirements including a redevelopment for the Frankston basketball stadium,” he said.

More than 10,000 Australians are living with metastatic breast cancer today; a number that Peta and Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) want to reduce significantly.

Her new treatment includes a side effect of making her hair fall out. However, that change is only a superficial one, because without fail, Peta retains a strong fighting spirit and vows to “be a voice for others living with the same disease.”

We’re right behind you Peta!
